Don't let the dreaded "Summer Slide" get you.....retain all those reading skills you have learned this past school year. It's easy ~ just READ!
That's right ~ just read. There are no specific titles, no levels, no particular genres. Just choose lots of titles that you think are interesting and then get lost in a book! You might decide to try out a new genre for you. Try a challenging book. Read all the books in a series. Read some nonfiction books about a topic you are interested in. No rules, except to read...and ENJOY!
"Research shows that reading just six (6) books during the summer months can help kids avoid the summer slide.” [Brain Balance Center, 2014]
**Keep a log of the book titles you've read (or the log from the public library summer program). Bring it to school the first week back (in August) to receive some free prizes and be entered in a drawing for free books off the book fair!!
If you have no idea WHAT to read, see the suggested titles on the left side of this page. These are books our students have enjoyed at DYE.
